The 8 phases of the lunar cycle
The moon completes a full cycle every ~29.5 days, moving through eight recognisable phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter and Waning Crescent. The waxing half is traditionally for setting intentions and growing, while the waning half is for release, rest and integration.
Our calculator uses Conway's well-known lunar algorithm to estimate the phase to within a day. For exact rise/set times look up a local astronomy almanac.
